Alpha-Core

Tape Wound Toroids: Transformers utilizing ring shaped cores wound from Grain Oriented Silicon Steel are 30-40% lighter and more compact than E-I transformers. In a toroidal transformer the magnetic flux runs parallel to the grain orientation in all parts of the core, and less wire is needed because the windings are distributed over the entire circumference resulting in a shorter mean turn length. Cores may be supplied bare, epoxy fluidized or enclosed in polycarbonate film. Custom sizes from a fraction of an ounce to 100 lbs or more. Please specify material, OD, ID and Ht., Bare or Insulated.

 Core Banding:

C-Core Transformers and Inductors require secure banding for consistent magnetic performance and noise control. Alpha Core is a distributor of the Ultra-Lok® system and carries bands and ties as well as tooling for core banding purposes.

Gapped Toroids: Toroids may be gapped for chokes or line reactors as well as current sensors utilizing Hall Effect Devices. Please specify the Material, ID, OD, Ht., and desired Gap Width. 

Cut Cores (Silicon Steel C-Cores and E-Cores): Cores are wound onto rectangularly shaped mandrels, annealed and resin impregnated before being cut in two utilizing abrasive cutoff machines.

The cut surfaces are meticulously polished and treated to reduce excitation current and losses. Core halves may be shimmed apart to produce defined gaps in chokes and line reactors. E-cores have three legs for three phase designs. Cut cores are assembled utilizing steel bands under controlled tension.
