The objective was to design an easy to use instrument, sturdy enough to be used in a production environment. The test frequency may be selected at 2,5, 12,5 and 50 kHz dependent on the core material, and a 1:1 or 1:2 range selector enables turn numbers up to 2,000 and 4,000 respectively. In order to measure the number of turns on a toroidal core the winding is hooked up to the heavy-duty wire clamps, and a very precise 2mV rms signal applied to a single turn via a probe lead. The LED readout indicates the number of turns. In the case of an E/I transformer the primary and secondary windings are hooked up to the test clamps and the test voltage pre-selected at 100, 400 or 2,000 mV. The readout now indicates the transformation ratio. Components up to 15 lb. can be placed on the instrument table, and even heavier transformers may be tested on the bench using an extended probe lead. Calibration may be performed in seconds by means of a built in 800 turn t
